Ashtanga Yoga
An ancient, graceful, flowing practice that will increase strength and flexibility, energy and concentration. Patanjali, the ancient sage and author of the Yoga Sutras, describes the eight aspects of yoga as limbs of a tree. Asanas or postures are one of the eight limbs and are uniquely designed sequences of postures linked together with breathing and movement (Vinyasa) Practiced in its correct sequence over time, the eight aspects of the limbs are developed. |
Yin Yoga
A very gentle, quiet form of yoga that brings suppleness to the connective tissue. The opposite of the Ashtanga practice, Yin is a wonderful complement to your practice. It is calming and restorative, very appropriate as an evening class to bring relaxation and preparation for sleep. It is excellent for people recovering from illness or for pre and post natal. The quietness lends itself to inner reflection and sensation awareness. The poses are held from 2-5 minutes to allow the the stiff and inflexible connective tissue to stretch.
